Sinkhole swallows car in Ottawa

An Ottawa driver escaped with minor injuries after his vehicle fell into a sinkhole on Highway 174, near the Jeanne D'Arc exit.

An Ottawa driver escapedwith only minor injuriesafter his vehicle fell into a sinkhole on Highway 174, near the Jeanne D'Arc exit.

Ottawa fire department spokesman Marc Messier said the driver of the vehicle "crawled out on his own" after his car fell into the massive sinkhole.

The four-door sedan was headed eastbound on the highway and turning off at Jeanne D'Arc Tuesday afternoon when the incident occurred.

Police have closed the exit and Highway 174 eastbound from Jeanne D'Arc to Montreal Road.
