Ottawa woman's death called a murder-suicide

Police say the death of an Ottawa woman beaten badly with a baseball bat in her Stittsville home was a murder-suicide and the city's fourth homicide of the year.

Theresa Lefebvre died in hospital earlier this week after her husband brutally beat her and then took his own life.

An Ottawa woman found badly beaten in her Stittsville home died in hospital this morning after what police are now calling a murder-suicide.

Theresa Lefebvre, 46, was brought to hospital April 11 after police responded to a call about a domestic disputeat her Hartsmere Drive home.

A source told CBC News Lefebvre was beaten with a baseball bat and that a man had called 911 to say he had killed his wife.

She had been in amedically-induced comafor the past week .

The body of her husband, 43-year-old Peter Lefebvre, waslater foundin the Stony Swamp Conservation area after an intensive police search. Police are calling his death a suicide.

Family, friends and neighbourshad said the couplewhoare survived bytwo children were in the middle of divorcing. They also said the man wasbattling with mental illness.

Police said they had earlier attended thefamily's homein March, the first and only emergency callthere before this incident.

Theresa Lefebvre's family has chosen to donate her organs, police say.
