Issaiah Clachar, 17, stabbed to death on Jasmine Crescent in Gloucester

A 17-year-old boy is dead and two people are in custody after a stabbing in east Ottawa just after midnight Sunday.

Ottawa police and paramedics said they were called to the 2000 block of Jasmine Crescent in Gloucester around 12:15 a.m.

Paramedics said police arrived first and started to treat two victims.

When paramedics got there, they took over care of a 17-year-old boy with multiple life-threatening stab wounds and a 23-year-old man who was also seriously injured.

The 17-year-old was listed in life-threatening condition when he arrived at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, where police said he later died.

Friends have identified the victim as 17-year-old Issaiah Clachar.

Paramedics said they found another man in his 20s with "soft tissue" injuries not long after they arrived.

Two males are in custody, according to police. The names of the other victims and the people in custody have not been released.

Fight 'got out of hand quickly'

The CBC's Kamil Karamali says the Ottawa police's major crimeunit was investigating bloody scenes inside and outside the highrise apartment building at 2000 Jasmine Crescent later Sunday morning.

"We're still trying to piece together all the parts of this," said Staff. Sgt. Bruce Pirt of the Ottawa police.

"We know there was a fight between two groups of young males outside of the address between 2000 and 2022 Jasmine Crescent."

Pirt would not say the number of people involved in the fight, just that it "got out of hand quickly." He wouldn't sayif anyone involved was previously known to police.

One personwho lives in the apartment complex and didn't want their name usedtold CBC News that two people who drove up in a black car ran away after they stabbed someone outside.

Pirt said the black car is part of their investigation.

Another woman who didn't want her name used said she heard a male voice yelling about a cheque before the stabbing.

Teen killed next door in April

The scene of Sunday's stabbing is next to the building where 18-year-old Connor Stevenson was stabbed to death in April.

19-year-old David Dubois is facing a second-degree murder charge in relation to Stevenson's death.

Pirt said there's no information linking the two homicides right now.

"It's a safe area. It's just a statistical anomaly right now that there have been two homicides there within the same year."
