Trudeau family pictures remembered by retired photographer Rod MacIvor

A retired Ottawa photojournalist's iconic photographs of the Trudeau family from the 1970s and 1980s are enjoying a resurgence in popularity now that the son of former prime minister Pierre Trudeau will lead the country.

'I never believed this day would come,' retired photographer says of renewed interest in his images

A retired Ottawa photojournalist's iconic photographs of the Trudeau family from the 1970s and 1980s are enjoying a resurgence in popularity now that the son of former prime minister Pierre Trudeau will lead the country.

Rod MacIvor took many photos of the Trudeaus when heworked for thewire service UPI from 1970 to1980. MacIvor later joined the Ottawa Citizen and retired in 2007.

You can check out some of his images in the photo gallery above, including the famous shotof Pierre Trudeau carrying a young Justin Trudeau under his arm.

"We refer to it as the football picture, because it's the way one would carry a football," MacIvor told Ottawa Morning host Robyn Bresnahan in an interview on Tuesday.

"I knew I had a picture that I would be quite proud of for some years to come, but I never believed this day would come."

The image won MacIvor theNational Newspaper Award forbest feature photo in 1973.
