Acadian cultural centre gets $1M boost

ACOA is investing $957,493 in the Centre Expo-Festival, a cultural tourism organization in the Evangeline area of P.E.I.

ACOA is investing $957,493 in the Centre Expo-Festival, a cultural tourism organization in the Evangeline area of P.E.I.

Local MP Gail Shea made the announcement at the festival's launch Wednesday night. The money will allow space to be built for daily performances at the centre during the tourism season. The event will be known as the Village Musical.

"It will be at least one presentation per day on that new stage for live musical presentations," said Marcel Bernard, head of the Evangeline Tourist Association.

"There will also be smaller stages where there will be a storyteller maybe, just telling stories about the region."

Dick Arsenault, co-chair of Centre Expo-Festival, said the Village Musical will serve as an anchor site to draw visitors to the Evangeline region.
