After closingdown its175 year-old church, the congregation of 12 people at St. Mark's Anglican church in south Rustico, P.E.I., made the decision to take down the building.

Rev. Ralph Moore said the building needed many repairs and the remaining parishioners didn't want to see it fall further into disrepair.

"It was sort of like losing a loved one, that we've all gone through," said Moore of tearing down the church.

"We all have friends or family that have passed on. And that is the way that we looked at this. It was a very sorrowful time. But something that had to occur eventually."

Moore saidparts of the church, including pews, stained glassand plaques, will live on in the homes of parishionersand in other churches.
