App helps parents talk about sex

A University of Victoria psychologist working for the summer on P.E.I. has developed an iPad app to help parents deal with questions about sex.

Jillian Roberts said if parents don't talk to their kids about sex, children will sometimes look for information in the wrong places. She said the app is designed to give children correct information using familiar technology.

"I saw the need. Children are really connected to their mobile devices these days, and there wasn't an app like it," said Roberts.

"Moms and dads find it hard to talk about and I wanted to make sure that they had a way to do it that was easier and safer for the kids."

Roberts said she drew on her experience as a psychologist and as a mother when developing what questions to address about sex.

The app is called The Facts of Life and is now available on the Apple App Store at a cost of $1.99.
