Beef producers form Maritime council

A new Maritime Beef Council has been formed to provide a united voice for beef producers in the region.

Rinnie Bradley, executive director of the P.E.I. Cattle Producers Association, said shes optimistic it will improve markets and profits.

"We feel that we can work better lobbying government or obtaining funding to do projects that will benefit producers in all three provinces," said Bradley.

A new research committee has been set up to give government direction on where research dollars should be focused for the industry.

"I guess within our groups, the inconsistency of the levy is one issue that we will be working on. But we also want to look at some of the things like cost of production and directing research," she said.

The newly-incorporated beef council held its first board meeting last month.
