Blood supply 'secure' despite Charlottetown strike

P.E.I.'s blood needs are still being metsays Peter MacDonald, the director of donor relations in Atlantic Canada. That's despite the ongoing strike by Charlottetown Canadian Blood Services workers.

"I can tell Islanders that they should feel secure in the safety of supply of blood products to hospitals, that blood will be there for hospital patients in Prince Edward Island for the duration of any labour disruption."

The 11 part-time workers, represented by the Nova Scotia Union of Public and Private Employees, began striking last Monday.

They are mainly looking for a guaranteed number of hours per week in order to keep their benefits.

MacDonald says there is no update on negotiations at this time.
