A P.E.I. man has been found safe after ground search and rescue teams were called to Blooming Point, on P.E.I.'s North Shore.

BrianMacMillan, 44, went missing overnight. RCMP say MacMillan was at a social event with a group of co-workers who noticed he was missing around1 a.m.

"They conducted their own little search of the area, but weren't able to find him," said RCMP Cpl. Scott Stevenson. "That's when they decided to call police."

If you're out with a group of friends, make sure you let somebody know where you're going and when you're expected to return. RCMP Cpl. Scott Stevenson

Members of P.E.I.'s ground search and rescue were called out at4:30 a.m., and a dog master was called in from the Codiac detachment in Moncton.

Stevenson said MacMillan was located at approximately 7 a.m.

"He walked out of the woods by himself, on his own steam. And it makes for a very happy ending ... It was the absolute best outcome in situations like this. It was exactly what we want," he said.

'Stay put'

Stevenson said it appears MacMillan got disoriented and lost his way in the woods.

"He ended up in a bit of a wooded area and got sort of twisted around, I guess is the best way to describe it."

MacMillan was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital as a precaution.

Stevenson said it's a good reminder to say put if you find yourself lost in the woods at night.

"The best plan is to stay put it's easier to find you if you're staying in one location than moving," he said.

"The other thing is if you're out with a group of friends, make sure you let somebody know where you're going and when you're expected to return."
