Brackley Beach park being closed, turned back into forest

Parks Canada is closing a small park area in Brackley Beach, and turning it back into part of the forest.

Officials say the Brackleydayuse park was hardly ever used by tourists.

Workers removed shelters, washrooms and a playground last year and now the plan is to fill in some of the roads and open areas by planting Acadian forest.

The idea is to rehabilitate the site and bring it back to a more natural state.

"We'll be hauling top soil in," said Greg Shaw, the project manager for Parks Canada.

"We'll be excavating some of the underground infrastructure which is still in the ground ... septic systems, water lines, electrical lines will be removed and then we'll be replanting trees starting in the fall."

Parks Canada called it a prime spot to do restoration work.

Staff say the goal is reduce the footprint on the environment and restore some areas to a more natural state.
