Brookvale provincial ski hills closed for season

Sunday marked the final downhill ski day of the season for the Brookvale provincial ski park, which is later than it usually closes.

The Brookvale nordic and Mill River nordic cross-country ski trails remain open

The ski season at Brookvale Provincial Park went for one week longer than usual.

Sunday marked the final downhill ski day of the season for theBrookvaleprovincial skipark, which is later than it usually closes.

Normally, it closes on the Sunday at the end of March Break.

The late closure didn't translate into significant numbers last week. Allan Matters, the ski park's superintendent, says the number of people at the hill wasabout 20 per cent theusual crowd in January or February.

"As far as keeping it open an additional week, it didn't improve our bottom line financially," he said.

Some ski and snowboarding competitions were planned for the last day, Sunday, March 29.

TheBrookvalenordic and Mill River nordic cross-country ski trails will remain open and groomed as long as conditions permit or until April 6, but ski rental services are no longer available.
