P.E.I. Buddhist monks baking rolls to help with Fort Mac relief

Young monks at the Great Enlightenment Buddhist Institute Society in Little Sands, P.E.I. are doing a lot of extra baking to help therelief effort in Fort McMurray.

They are baking 2,000 bread rolls each week until May 30.That's in addition to the rolls they already bake every week to help food banks on the Island.

The Fort Mac rolls will sell for $1 each and the institute will match each sale by $1, with all theproceedsgoing to the Canadian Red Cross.

The executive secretaryofthe Great Enlightenment Buddhist Institute Society,Geoffrey Yang, saidthe monks felt moved to help.

"They feel really privileged to be able to be contributing and to dedicate their efforts," said Yang.

"They feel the need and they feel sad about the events, and so many people are impacted and so much property hasbeen lost."

Yang saida Facebook event page is being set up to let people know how to purchase the rolls and where they can be picked up.

Yang notedthat this weekend the monks will be holding a three-day chanting ceremony at the monastery to pray for those affected by the fire.
