Cancer society blames weather for poor daffodil sales

The Canadian Cancer Society says spring snowstorms have slowed down its annual daffodil fundraising campaign.

Twostorms closed the venues where the daffodils are usually sold.

But a Culinary Institute of Canada student has offered to sell sweets to help boost the numbers.

"I lost my grandmother in October 2011 to lung cancer," said Jessica Holmes. "That was the first time I really realized how real the disease is. That was the first time that I personally had been touched by it."

"It's a disease that everyone in some way can relate to. That way I think it makes it easier for everyone to support."

Desserts and daffodils will be on sale starting April 3 at the schools Lucy Maud Dining Room, as well as a number of Charlottetown restaurants.
