Engineers are assessing the damage at the Cavendish Agri Services facility in Travellers Rest after the roof collapsed early Saturday morning.

The steel building, owned by J.D. Irving Limited, is more than 830 square metres and is used as a storage facility for dry fertilizer.

That area of the Island was hit with heavy snow and winds during a storm on Friday night.

Geoff Britt, a communications officer with JD Irving, said the damage to the roof is significant, but the materials stored in the building are secure.

"We anticipate a full recovery of the products, so supply to the farmers will not be an issue. It was secured and not damaged the material itself," Britt said Monday.

"We're thankful, obviously, there were no injuries. All of the materials are secure and contained, and we have found a new temporary storage location. And rebuilding work will begin immediately."

This is the second roofto collapse over the weekend.

The roof of the Home Hardware in Tignish collapsed after closing Friday. It is unclear what caused the roof to fail.
