Cavendish Beach Music Festival will see some site changes, says resort chair

People living and working in the Cavendish area will get a chance next week to hear about new traffic and parking plans for this year's Cavendish Beach Music Festival.

Resort municipality chair Matthew Jelley saidthere are a significant number of changes coming to the site and traffic plan.

He won't go into detail before a meeting with residents scheduled for next week, but notes a lot of the changes come from feedback received after last year's festival.

"There are going to be changes that theRCMPand the Department of Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy have been working on to help improve trafficflow and to improve site security.

"And we are also moving the pedestrian traffic to make it safer for them and to create less disruption for neighbouring residents as well," Jelley said.

"So there are a lot of different components that go into that but those are the major themes that the promoter has tried to address. And we are excited about the new plan and hopeful that it will be a significant improvement. "

Residents will also get a chance to see the site and facility plans, said Jelley.

Festival takes place in July

It's billed as the largest music festival in Atlantic Canada, attracting tens of thousands of people to the area.

After last year's festival, residents were given a chance to voice comments or concerns about how crowds were handled and the impact on the area.

Some residents reported public drunkenness and noise, but there was a recognition of the boost to business in drawing so many people to the area.

The meeting will be held on June 2 at 7 p.m. at the North Rustico Lions Club.

The Cavendish Beach Music Festival takes place this year from July 8 to 10.
