Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee will host a newcomer reception August 4 in partnership with the PEI Newcomers Association.

The event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at city hall, where newcomers to Charlottetown will be able to take a tour.

"The goal is to welcome them to the community ... and we thank them for being part of our community," said Lee.

"It's really a get to know the city sort of thing."

Orientation sessions in the fall

Newcomers will have the opportunity to learn about the various city departments, and meet Lee and council members in an informal setting.

The Charlottetown newcomer ambassadors will be on hand as volunteer peer supports to help break down any potential language barriers and ensure the event is welcoming and comfortable for people of all different nationalities and cultures.

Lee said there are plans to hold orientation sessions later in the fall that will provide information to interested developers and business people.

"We want to introduce them to the incentive program that are available through the economic development department for certain types of development."
