Charlottetown police make two drug busts

Charlottetown Police seized approximately $50,000 worth of illegal drugs over the weekend in two separate raids, arresting two people from Charlottetown and two from New Brunswick.

Charlottetown Police seized approximately $50,000 worth of illegal drugs over the weekend in two separate raids, arresting two people from Charlottetown and two from New Brunswick.

Executing a search warrant Saturday night at a home on Sydney Street, police seized about 150 grams of cocaine, with a street value of approximately $11,000.Several knives, a cellphone, an imitation firearm and drug paraphernalia were also seized.

A 40-year-oldCharlottetown manfaces charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

On Sundaynight, police executed a search warrant at a hotel onGrafton Street.

They say they seized about $37,000 worth of illegal drugs there, including about 50 grams of cocaine, 499 speed pills and 287 oxycodone pills.

"It's significant in the fact that we were able to get $37,000 worth of illegal drugs, and the majority of that was pills, which is an ever-increasing problem, said Deputy Police Chief Gary McGuigan.

"So it's significant in that sense that we were able to take those pills off the street before they were able to sell them and have them distributed to people."

Police also seized a rental vehicle and drug paraphernalia.

A 21-year-old Charlottetownwoman faces five counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, and three counts of breach of probation.

Two men, a 35-year-old and a 34-year-old, both from Eel River,New Brunswick face five counts each of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
