Church offers burial for newborn found dead Sunday

The pastor responsible for the Birch Hill Free Church of Scotland in Mt. Albion says the church is offering a burial for an unidentified newborn found there Sunday.

The pastor responsible for the Birch Hill Free Church of Scotland in Mt. Albion says the church is offering a burial for an unidentified newborn found there Sunday.

The infant'sbody was found wrapped in a blanket and placed on the snow by the graveyard next to the church.

Rev.Kent Compton said, "This child has come to us. Itis a child and we want to see that this matter ends with affirming the dignity of this child."

The RCMP Major Crime Unit isconducting aninvestigation.

An autopsy was expected to take placeyesterday.

There are no details yet on how the baby died or how it ended up outside the church.

Compton said it is something that has become very personal forhim and the congregation.

"We are thankful to do what we can to affirm that this child matters to us and matters to God."

The minister added they are praying for the mother of the baby.

RCMP expressed concern the mother may require medical assistance, and has encouraged anyone who may have information to reach out to authorities.
