Cornwall's Citizens on Patrol program is relaunching this weekend.

The program shut down last spring when the number of volunteers fell below an acceptable level.

But on Tuesday, more than a dozen people attended a public meeting about participating in the program and several others called to say they were interested, according to the town's Deputy Mayor Gary Ramsay.

He said that's enough new volunteers to get things going again.

Under the program, pairs of volunteers drive around the town on weekend nights looking for suspicious activity and alert the RCMP to any concerns.

"Well, we had the RCMP there too. And they were pretty happy that it is going to be up and starting and running because it does provide extra eyes and ears for them because they can't be everywhere," said Ramsay.

"And citizens hopefully will be able to spot a few little incidents that they can just report to the RCMP and they can be there."

Volunteers will be especially alert for anything being stolen from vehicles, which Ramsay said has been an issue in some neighbourhoods.
