Two of the stars from Coronation Street are on the way to P.E.I. to meet the fans and tell some backstage stories.

There is no denying that the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street has a huge following in Canada, and P.E.I. fans are getting a chance to get up close and personal with two of the stars.

Both are famous for their roles as knicker-stitchers, workers at the underwear factory: Beth Sutherland, played by Lisa George, and her niece on the show, Sinead Tinker, played by Katie McGlynn.

The pair are coming all the way to Summerside on Monday, Sept. 26, for an appearance at the Harbourfront Theatre, andMcGlynn joined CBC Mainstreet's Angela Walker to tell her about it.

They are two of the newer characters to join the cast, which was a bit of luck for McGlynn, who was cast in 2013.

Lisa George, who plays Beth Sutherland, Sinead's aunt, will also be in Summerside. (http://www.itv.com/coronationstreet/)
"I was only going to do two episodes and then three or four episodes and then they brought me back and I'm still here three years later," she said.

Dream job

An actress for several years, despite her young age of 21, she grew up watching the show with her grandfather and family, and calls it a dream job.

"Sinead is an odd one, she's very quirky, but she's very fun to play because she is a bit different to everybody else," said McGlynn. "She's got a good heart. She can be a bit daft sometimes, a bit ditzy, but she's a lovely part to play."

The big question for her character right now is whether Sinead will end up marrying her boyfriend, Chesney.

"I have no idea. I love playing with Sam (Aston), who plays Chesney, I think Sinead and Chesney are a great little couple," she said. "They remind me of an old couple, but they're young. I think it's dead sweet, and it's fun to play a couple. But who knows what will happen, we might get married, we might have kids, we don't know yet."

With Coronation Street lagging behind the British air dates by several months, McGlynn does know lots of tidbits about the plot lines that Canadians have yet to see.

As for telling tales out of school, "Oh, I don't know about that," she laughed. "I might do a few if you're lucky."

McGlynn and George will face the real fans at Harbourfront Theatre, ready to give an insider's view into the show.

"There will be us, talking about Corrie, telling you some funny stories, telling you what it's like filming, the ups and downs, all sorts of stuff that happens, and then we'll do a question-and-answer afterwards as well," said McGlynn.

First time for star

It will be a night of firsts for the star, as she's never made this kind of appearance before.

"I haven't, no! I've not done anything like this so I'm looking forward to doing it, really," she said. "I have no idea what kinds of questions I'll be asked, but I quite like being put on the spot, I think it will be fun."

And, she's never been to Canada before either.

"I'm just intrigued why they like Coronation Street," she said. "When I found out that Canada had quite a big fanbase, because I thought we've got similar cultures but we see Coronation Street as a northern thing, like Manchester you know, with cups of tea and the sense of humour and stuff, I was surprised that Canadians liked it."

You can join the stars of Coronation Street Monday, Sept. 26 at the Harbourfront Theatre in Summerside, with the show time at 7:30 p.m. Ticket information is at the box office.
