Group wants Charlottetown to ban bottled water at city run events

The Council of Canadians says it would like Charlottetown to become a Blue Community and ban bottled water at city run events and venues.

Marian White, a volunteer with the group said when a city becomes a Blue Community, the sale of bottled water is limited at public events.

The designation also promotes access to clean drinking water as a human right. There are 18 Blue Communities across Canada.

"If we rely on bottled water, then we'll be paying for water for the rest of our lives, and our children's children," said White.

The groupwill officially launch their campaign on Earth Day, which is Friday.

The city has already banned bottled water at the council meetings and White said that is a good start.

White adds the group is working to set up a meeting with city staff.
