1st cruise visits Charlottetown to launch season

The first cruise ship docked in Charlottetown Monday, launching the 2017 cruise ship season for Prince Edward Island.

The first cruise ship docked in Charlottetown Monday, launching the 2017 cruise ship season for Prince Edward Island.

TheVeendam'svisit is the first of many cruise ships set to bring tourists from May to October.

There are 83 cruise ship visits scheduled for the season, in what Port Charlottetown is calling "our biggest year yet."

Most of the ships carry on average about 2,000 passengers. One ship, thePearl Mistwill visit May 21 with 210 passengers.

The largest,Crown Princess will have 3,080 passengers on board when it visits in October.

The cruise ships dock for one day allowing passengers to visit Charlottetown or other Island tourist attractions.
