A Charlottetown cyclist has started a petition asking the province to put in dedicated bike lanes connecting Stratford and Cornwall to Charlottetown.

Josh Underhaysaid hewould like to see bikes and cars separated on the North River causeway to Cornwall.

There are great trails on both sides of the Hillsborough Bridge but they need to be connected, says Josh Underhay. (Pat Martel/CBC)

He added there should also be safer bike routes on the Hillsborough Bridge from Charlottetown to Stratford.

"But those two points are frustratingly disconnected," said Underhay "In order to go from the Joe Ghiz park over to Stratford, you have to do the dangerous trek of going through lanes, and then being on the side of the Hillsborough Bridge which is one of the busiest arteries on the Island.

"All we need to do is connect the fantastic work of the trails that are already there, and we can see some great progress."

To date,Underhaysaid he hadabout 70 names on his petition.

The provincial government, whichowns the Hillsborough Bridge and the North River Causeway, were contacted forreaction to the petition but had not responded to CBC's request.
