Demolition of 8 Charlottetown houses could be delayed

The demolition of eight houses on Passmore and Chestnut streets in Charlottetown may not happen this winter.

Council voted Monday night to send plans for a proposed development by developer Philip O'Halloran to a public meeting.

Residents will have a chance to weigh in on the development, and those views will be considered when council votes on whether to approve the project.

Council approved the demolition of the homes, which are mostly vacant and described as being in very poor condition, in December.

Planning committee chair Coun. Greg Rivard said he believes the developer is waiting on council's go ahead for the new project before tearing the houses down.
