Downtown hotel objections "silly": developer

A developer behind a proposed hotel in downtown Charlottetown is dismissing concerns raised by people who live in the area.

A developer behind a proposed hotel indowntown Charlottetown is dismissing concerns raised by people who live in the area.

Hotel developer APM has a permit from the City of Charlottetown to build the six-storey building near the waterfront, at the corner of Queen and Water streets.

Three people presented concerns about the project during a hearing at the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission Monday.

"It's just kind of silly, frivolous objections to our project," said Tim Banks, CEO of APM. "Snow removal they're concerned about the snow removal, and we're a professional company," Banks said. "We have customers that are going to come into our hotels, and we're going to see that whatever snow we have to deal with will be removed."

Banks said the opponents have been trying to argue the development will devalue their properties. He said experience with similar projects in other markets shows property values will actually increase.
