Drunk driver guilty of aggravated assault

A U.S. man has pleaded guilty to seriously injuring a P.E.I. native who was coaching hockey in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Kristen Cameron's family says they are focused only on her recovery, not revenge.

Allen Peters was drunk when he hit Cameron as she drove her bicycle along the road. Her back and neck were broken. On Tuesday, Peters entered a guilty plea to aggravated assault while driving under the influence.

Cameron is currently going through rehab at a Toronto hospital.

"It's good to have it over and done with. We'll wait for the sentence. We're more concerned about Kristen," her uncle, Rick Cameron, told CBC News Wednesday.

"I feel a bit bad for Allen Peters in a sense that his family is going to have to go through this as well, and it's something that he has to live with for the rest of his life. But we're going to focus on Kristen and we're just going to do what we can to help her." Peters will be sentenced April 26. He could face 10 years in jail.

Cameron spoke to reporters in Erie on Monday abouthow she is doing.

Ethan Magoc, editor of the campus newspaper at Mercyhurst College, where Cameron was coaching hockey, was in court to hearthe guilty plea.
