Charlottetown has hired an energy efficiency co-ordinator for 15 weeks to conduct energy audits of city facilities.

Ramona Doyle, the city's sustainability officer, hopes the audits will identify areas where improvements can be made to reduce energy useand greenhouse gas emissions.

"We really wanted to take a closer look at our city facilities and our fleet to look for opportunities to save energy use and reduce our ...operating costs," said Doyle. "We have had interns the last three years from the energy systems engineering technology program at Holland College. And they have been able to identify during their short stay with us some really great opportunities."

"So we thought if we were able to give it a longer effort with somebody on staff that we could make a bigger impact," said Doyle.

The energy efficiency coordinator is Nicholas Cahill, a recent graduate of Holland College's Energy Systems Engineering Technology program.

He will be starting his audits inthe buildings that have the highest fuel and electricity costs.
