A festival that organizers say helps keep French language and culture alive on P.E.I. wrapped up on Sunday evening.

The Evangeline AreaAgricultural Exhibition and Acadian Festival in Abrams Village is in its 45th year and typically attracts between 8,000 and 9,000 people.

"We have people [coming] fromacross Canada. I met couples from Vancouver, there were people from the States. It draws a lot of people,"said organizer Alcide Bernard.

The backbone of this weekend is an agricultural festival that is now 113 years old. Events include livestock demonstrations, boot-throwing competitions and traditional music and dance.

For some people, the festival brings back memories of their younger days.

"It reminds me of my youth. It's emotional,"said Louise Arsenault.

Organizers said that because of the good weather, turnout for this year's festival might be their biggest yet.

The four-day festival started on Thursday.
