P.E.I. tourism will benefit from federal budget

Tourism investments made in the federal budget will help showcase Canada and the Atlantic region, says Kevin Mouflier, chief executive officer of Tourism Industry Association of P.E.I.

Mouflier said he gave the budget a thumbs up after hearing the federal government willincreaseDestination Canada's international tourism marketing by $50 million over the next two years.

"I think that's a huge win particularly with the fact that we're looking towards growing our visitation from the U.S.," said Mouflier.

"Also, the fact that when you look at entry points into Prince Edward Island, the additional investments into the ferries, that will make a particular impact as well. Very exciting and I think very positive."

The CEO says the $83.3 million to provide free admission for all visitors to National Parks and National Historic Sites operated by Parks Canada in 2017, should also boost numbers on P.E.I.
