P.E.I. film and television producers seek restored provincial funding
Industry collapsed on the Island after previous subsidy phased out
P.E.I. film and television producers are asking the province to restore a funding program that waswas phased out seven years ago.
Producers told a legislativecommittee Tuesday that when that program disappeared, so did the local film and television industry.
"When it was eliminated, basically all production halted," said Gretha Rose, a producer with Cellar Door Productions.
"We no longer could attract productions here."
The Island Media Arts Co-op is suggesting a rebate worth up to 25 per cent of the cost of producing a show.
Committee members said they were impressed, and agreed to write to the premier and cabinet expressing their support for the idea.
