$100K in funding ensures music education continues in P.E.I. schools

A committee of P.E.I. music teachers will be recommending where $100,000 in funding for music education will be spent across the Island.

A committee of P.E.I. music teachers will be recommending where $100,000 in funding for music education will be spent across the Island.

Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister DougCurrie said the funding "will ensure that our talented music students and teachers continue to have high quality musical instruments."

FrankNabuurs, a band teacher atEast Wiltshire Intermediate School said his students are playing their instruments at least four hours a week.

"Band instruments are like cars, they break down and rust," said Nabuurs.

There are approximately 25 instrumental programs in schools across the province.
