Girlfriend of fire victim thanks community for fundraiser

The girlfriend of one of the teenagers killed in a Charlottetown fire last month says money raised Sunday will help her raisetheir one-year-old son.

A benefit concert in MontagueSunday brought the community together for the families of three teenagers killed inthe March fire.

They were:

• 15-year-old Kenneth Irving
• 15-year-old BrandonMacKinnon
• 19-year-oldJoseph Allison Reeves

A fourth teenager, Brandon Quinn, managed to escape the blazeand was airlifted to hospital in Halifax.He attendedthe fundraiser and was surrounded by friends.

MikaylaFeener hasa child with Reeves. She said the community support has gotten her through the last month.

"It's been really amazing. I don't know if I would have been able to get through all of this without their support. It's been hard," she said.

She described Reeves was a funny guy who loved to make people laugh.

"He was a really good dad, too," she said."I'm keeping the memory alive for Isaiah.He'll always be in our hearts."

She recently found a letter Reeves had written to his son when he was three months old. "It says that he loves his son and that he needs to be strong for him and that he'll be there for him no matter what happens."

About 200 people went toMontague High School for a silent auction, bake sale and music. There was a donation bucket at the door.

Scotiabank will match up to $5,000 in donations made Sunday.

The teens were found dead inside a vacant Charlottetownbuilding that caught fire in late March.
