Green Gables opens for season on May 1

Green Gables Heritage Place in Cavendish, P.E.I., opens for the season on Monday and, like other Parks Canada locations across the country, it's free.

Like other Parks Canada attractions, Green Gables Heritage Place is free with a Discovery Pass

Green Gables Heritage Place in Cavendish, P.E.I., opens for the season on Monday and, like other Parks Canada locations across the country, it's free this year.

Admission is free for Canada's 150th birthday with a Discovery Card, which can be picked up online or on site.

"We encourage everyone to celebrate our country's special year by taking advantage of the free Discovery Pass and to visit some of our historic landmarks, like the home of our favourite fictional red-headed Islander," Karen Jans, a superintendent with Parks Canada, said in a statement.

At Green Gables they stay open

The site is staying open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Oct. 31, despite a $9.5- million redevelopment project.

The house, grounds, trails and gardens will all be accessible, Parks Canada said in a news release. From July 1 to Labour Day, there will also be activities such as guided walks, story time and ceilidhs.
