The City of Summerside is offering a different kind of treat option to put in this year's Halloween treat bags.

City encouarging physical fitness rather than sugar consumption

The City of Summerside is offering a different kind of treat option for this year's Halloween treat bags.

Rather than give out candy, they are asking residents to give out passes that encourage physical fitness.

Director of Community ServicesJ.P. Desrosiers saidhe's not trying to play a trick or suggest there should be no treats.

"It's all about just being conscious of the fact that we are, you know, intaking quite a bit of sugar, probably an unnecessary amount, probably doing so on a day-to-day basis. Then all of a sudden we have this Halloween sort of festival where we think it's OK." said Desrosiers.

"I would suggest maybe just trying to change the mindset a little bit to try and encourage a little less consumption of sugars and a little more consumption of physical activity certainly isn't a bad thing."

Credit Union Place is selling booklets of ten passesfor $10,for skating, bowling and swimming,a discount from the regular price.
