Ron Joyce, Tim Hortons co-founder gives $2M to Holland College

The co-founder of Tim Hortons has donated 2 million dollars to Holland College's endowment fund. The College will create 25 new entrance bursaries for students every year.

Donation is the biggest single donation in college history, adding 25 new bursaries

The co-founder of Tim Hortons has donated 2 million dollars to Holland College.

It's the largest single giftever made to the school.

Ron and son Steven Joyce made the announcement at the school's Prince of Wales Campus Friday morning.

The money will go into a permanently invested endowment, which will earn money for 25 new annual entrance bursaries ranging in value from $1,000 to $2,000.

"We choose to support institutions that contribute a lot to our society and our young people," said Ron Joyce."If we can help some young people get through high school or get through their education, and college education, all those things are so very important."

The money will also help fund academic support services at the Summerside Waterfront Campus, the Marine Centre, the Atlantic Police Academy and the West Prince Campus. New or expanded services will include a support worker and tutoring services.

In recognition for the gift, the new home for student academic services at the Summerside Waterfront Campus will be named The Joyce Family Centre for Academic Support.
