Eight different plays and creative works will be on display this weekend as the Island Fringe Festival takes place in Charlottetown.

The main focus of the festival is theatre and it allows people to see unique productions in unexpected places. For example, Blindness: A Dark Comedy, which bills itself as "an existential look into what it is to go blind" is being performed on the steps of the Hon. George Coles Building, a government building.

This accessible location means anybody wandering by can take in the show.

Josh Coles, a spokesperson for the festival, says that's exactly what this weekend is all about.

"We've heard a lot from people in the community that it's nice to see some theatre being really accessible to people,"he said.

The price of admission to all shows is by donation.

The festival wraps up Sunday.
