P.E.I. tourist operators are looking forward to a winter tourism boost thanks to the Jack Frost Children's Winterfest this weekend.

The festival takes place at the Charlottetown Event Grounds from Friday to Sunday.

"Last year there were lots of packages booked, which included hotels and it causes a little bit of action, which is great this time of year," said Don Cudmore, executive director of the Tourism Industry Association of P.E.I.

"It takes very little to make a difference."

The festival returned in 2014 after a one-year hiatus. Tourism Charlottetown, which ran the event for eight years, got out of event planning, and no one stepped forward to take it over.

It past years, the festival has had an economic impact of between $1 million and $2.5 million.
