A family from Kelowna, B.C., is on P.E.I. this week on the first leg of a global adventure, part of a new movement they call Just Give.

J. B. Owen and her two children 11-year-old Adonie Sacallis and eight-year-old Lydia Sacallis have given up their home, put everything in storage, and have embarked on a 12-month journey across Canada and the globe.

The goal is to raise $1 million for 34 charities, just by doing good deeds. The children will continue their education online for the year.

"It makes you make you feel warm in your heart when you give back to people," said Adonie Sacallis.

"We went to the soup kitchen yesterday and the lady that worked there said one in five children go to bed hungry in P.E.I. I felt really sad, and that we should really try to make a difference and make it zero out of 5 people go to bed hungry."

The family is paying for their own travel expenses while getting some local help. A couple in Charlottetown donated their home and car to them while they are here.

They will travel to the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Peru, Galapagos, Greece, Turkey and the United States.
