Legislature moving to Coles Building

The P.E.I. Legislature will meet in the Coles Building, next door to Province House, while renovations expected to take three to five years are underway at the provincial legislature building.

Conservation work on Province House will begin in January 2015, making the fall session of the Legislature the last one that will meet in Province House for several years.

During the conservation work, the legislative assembly will meet in the Pope Room on the first floor of the Coles Building. A seating area will provide public access to view the proceedings. The administrative, security and press offices will also be relocated to the Coles Building. The office of the speaker and the office of the clerk of the legislative assembly will be relocated across the street from the Coles Building at 197 Richmond St.

Parks Canada has committed $10.5 million for the repairs, but the estimated total cost is expected to be between $30 million and $40 million.
