Lien filed against mall developer

A mechanics' lien for almost $934,000 was filed in P.E.I.'s Supreme Court last week against the Oran Group, which is proposing a major redevelopment of Summerside's Waterfront Shopping Centre.

A mechanics' lien for almost $934,000 was filed in P.E.I.'s Supreme Court last week against the Oran Group, which is proposing a major redevelopment of Summerside's Waterfront Shopping Centre.

The lien was filed by Coles Associates of Charlottetown, which claims it has not been paid forarchitectural, engineering and project management services that it provided the Oran Groupon the mall project.

Coles Associates claims two cheques for $100,000 each were not honoured by the company's bank because of insufficient funds in Oran's TD Canada Trustbank account.

Oran has not yet filed a response with the court. Until the lien is removed, Oran will not hold clear title to the property.

The proposed redevelopment would see a major refurbishment of the mall and 101 condominiums added. The project has been on hold for about a year because of a dispute with the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club over the loss of 100 parking spaces.

It appeared last week that a resolution to the parking issue could be in sight.
