Martin Sobey heads to Phoenix for triathlon training

A young triathlete from Prince Edward Island is heading to Phoenix, Arizona Sunday to compete in a four-week training camp.

Island athlete will also spent time at Triathlon Canada's high-performance training centre

A young triathlete from Prince Edward Island is heading to Phoenix, Arizona, Sunday to compete in a four-week training camp.

Martin Sobey, 19, will then move on to Victoria to continue training at Triathalon Canada's high-performance training centre.

Sobey says working with this team will give him some big opportunities.

"Triathlon Canada gives me a lot of opportunity just to be able to do a lot of good racing opportunities and be able to travel hopefully throughout most of North America and maybe even over to Europe," he said.

Sobeysays if he can compete early in the season this year he may be able to qualify for the worldchampionships,which usually fall sometime in September.

Sobey has been involved with the sport since the 2013 Canada Games and this past summer he finished fifth at the junior national triathlonchampionships.
