Alberton Mayor Mike Murphy wants the provincial government to increase the hours of operation for the only liquor store in town.

He says it's not fair that liquor stores in O'Leary and Tignish have longer hours.

We are just looking to be treated fairly as far as hours go. Alberton Mayor Mike Murphy

"We are the biggest town in West Prince with the highest population. There are a lot of tourists and stuff go through here in the summertime," said Murphy.

"We are just looking to be treated fairly as far as hours go and it's just a draw from our local businesses."

Murphy said he also wants the liquor store to be open on Sundays like the one in Tignish.

He adds he's sent letters to make a formal request for changes to the P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission, the local MLA , the finance minister, and the premier.

Murphy said he has received no response from anyone.

But P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission officials told CBC News the issue will be discussed at their next board meeting.
