A neighbourhood meeting tonight aims provide details about Charlottetown's $20 million Miltonvale well-field development.

Charlottetown Coun. Eddie Rice said the meeting will focus on piping connections from the new well-field being installed in the area.

"We want to take all precautions to make sure they [residents] are informed in advance of our activities both for this year, and next year when it's finished," he told Mainstreet P.E.I.

Letters have been sent to residents who will be affected during construction, and Rice said the city is now holding meetings for the general public.

"They will know as the piping is laid and the disruption is caused that they'll be kept informed through all forms of media as they have in the past but they will also know what is going on," said Rice.

Not a great disturbance

The councillor said the project is a necessity to establish the well and provide service to those who want to get water off the new source.

"I don't see it as a great disturbance as long as we keep the people informed," he said.

"We are working on it until November and then we'll go back at it in the spring and hopefully we are going to finish it by April to May."

Rice said the project has long been necessary, and once completed will mean a reduction in use of water from wells in theWinter River Watershed.

Homeowners will not be required to hook into the new system.

The meeting is being held at7 p.m. at the West Royalty Community Centre.
