Charlottetown to host micro-grant pitch party

Members of the public will have the final say on which community sustainability projects will get a series of grants.

The City of Charlottetown is hosting its first ever micro-grant pitch party.

People who have submitted proposals for the community sustainability micro-grant program will present their idea in five minutes or less at the event.

But instead of city officials or politicians picking the winners, the public will.

The top-voted proposals will receive grants of up to $2,500, but Charlottetown sustainability officer Ramona Doyle said all the projects are worthy of the funding.

'Deserving of funding'

"When we received our applications, we went through them to ensure that they were great projects and we ensured that they were eligible," she said.

"So those people that we've invited to pitch, we feel really confident that all those projects are deserving of funding and impactful in the community."

The money is used by local groups for special projects that would have an impact on the community. The city gave out $15,000 in grants last year.

The Micro-Grant Pitch Party is taking place on May 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Murphy's Community Centre.
