Mobile home battle brewing in Souris

The owners of the Souris Trailer Park are challenging the eastern P.E.I. town's bylaw on mobile homes.

Council is no longer issuing permits to move the smaller mobile homes used in Souris Trailer Park into the town. Only newer trailers, known as mini-homes, are allowed.

That's not fair, Anne McPhee and her husband, Billy McMaster, told CBC News Tuesday. They say their park was set up in 1975 and isn't able to accommodate the larger mini-homes.

"It's a trailer park, and they are saying now you can't operate your business as a trailer park anymore. It's now a mini-home site," said McPhee.

"We don't want that. You know, we weren't consulted. We just don't feel that it's right."

McPhee said she doesn't see why if someone moves an old mobile home out of the park that another one can't be brought in.

McPhee and McMaster have asked the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission to overturn the bylaw. The hearing is set for Oct. 21.
