Wednesday marked the end of Ramadan and Muslims across Prince Edward Island marked the end of a month of daily fasting.

To celebrate, they took part in the Eid al-Fitr, one of the most important religious holidays for Muslims.

Members of the Muslim Youth PEI Initiative handed out balloons in downtown Charlottetown and wished people a happy Eid.

Participant Omair Imtiaz said he wanted to educate the public about Islam.

"Because of what the media portrays, sometimes I find like, we have to go out and kind of like, you know, kind of change that kind of thought, because you know you have one side that you see in the media and you have another side where you have people like us getting around and having a good time and trying to spread peace and love," said Imtiaz.

"So we just want to really show everybody who we really are and spread the message of good news."

People also gathered for prayers Wednesday morning.

The Muslim Society of P.E.I. planned to host a community meal Wednesday evening.
