NDP Leader Mike Redmond is calling on Premier Wade MacLauchlan to give an update of where things stand with the auditor general's investigation into the province's controversial attempt to get into e-gaming regulation.

Redmond wants the report to be released to the general public.

"Our fear is ... the report will be released to the premier and he will immediately send it on to the RCMP," he said.

Redmond said he wants to ensure the premier keeps his word on transparency in government.

Last December, MacLauchlan told CBC News the findings would be released early this year.

"In the first quarter, or certainly in the first several months of 2016, that will all come out. It's in the right hands, in the auditor general's," he said at the time.

"She'll take a very close, I'll call forensic, approach to this and we'll see it in the light of day and we'll see it with the considered opinion and advice of the auditor general, and we'll take that advice and act on it."

The auditor general says the office is finishing up the detailed work, but there's no firm date for when the report will be complete, though it is a priority.
