Nepalese relatives unreachable after earthquake

A Nepalese couple living on P.E.I. has been unable to contact their family and friends affected by the devastating earthquake that struck their homeland on the weekend.

Anuj Thapa and his wife Ritu own theHimalayan Curry restaurant in Charlottetown. They told CBC News four of their friends have lost their homes. While they believe their family and friends are safe, they've been unable to speak with them.

They are donating one month's salary and all of the restaurant's tips until May 1 towards supplies to help the devastated people of Nepal. The couple hopes Islanders will help as well.

"It hurts really. You feel like crying for so many hours. We can't help them, we can't reach them. They are in really big trouble,"

"They are really scared, and we really need to help them. I hope the contributions from Prince Edward Island, Islanders will give some contributions to help our country, small contribution will be also a lot."

The official death toll in Nepal is more than 4,000.
