Neurodegenerative diseases conference discussing treatments

Scientists, researchers and pharmaceutical representatives from around the world are in Charlottetown this week for a conference on neurodegenerative diseases.

It's being hosted by the Prince Edward Island BioAlliance and Island biotech company, Neurodyn Life Sciences.

Participants will discuss the latest treatments for diseases like ALS and Alzheimer's.

They will also present their experiences and expertise, sharing any breakthroughs in clinical research.

Denis Kay is the chief scientific officer at Neurodyn and a co-founder of the conference.

"Our goal at Neurodyn and that of many companies in this space is to develop effective, affordable treatments for the diseases that afflict many of us as we age in our 60s, 70s, and 80s, and beyond," he said.

"Find something that will increase the quality of life and hopefully the longevity of patients suffering from these diseases."

The public is invited to a lecture on dementia and Parkinson's disease Sunday night. It will be held at 7 p.m. at the Delta Prince Edward Hotel.
